WNTN uses 10 kW sunrise to sunset from a single non-directional guyed tower behind the studio/transmitter building. WNTN signs off at sunset to protect CBE in Windsor, Ont.
WNTN signed on April 1, 1968, owned by “Newton Broadcasting”, with an adult contemporary format. Orestes Demetriades bought the station in 1975. In the late 70s, WNTN shot into prominence, briefly, with Boston's first disco format. It was successful but short-lived, since WXKS-FM “Kiss 108” brought disco to FM in 1979. In recent years, WNTN's talk programming has catered to senior citizens in the Newton area, while leased-time programming has catered to a variety of ethnic groups. The FCC approved the sale to the current owners, Colt Communications, on October 30, 1998.
